Those who remember the batgirl debacle with trepidation may want to look away now.

After helping someone deal with cancer I had my scanner connected, and my sketchbook in the same place; so it seemed like the perfect time to snag some of the best from my sketchbook. Note - no batgirl this time.

I think some of these are pretty good. I've certainly improved quite a bit at figure comp; although the eyes and faces probably still need a bit of work.

Half the job seems to be getting the eyes right, which I am *slowly* getting better at. I Have found *one or two* hairstyles that seem to work. More practice required, methinks.

edit: "couplet" were not supposed to be together, I just ran out of space. And "bound" is not supposed to look like [info]spidergirl_jen's cocktail costume. Although in retrospect it kinda does.

On reflection, the problem with that one is that the shoulders and above are out of proportion, so she looks like she's hunching forward a bit.

Humm.

Proportions... my old enemy. :/

I don't really feel right posting here, having never drawn anything ever *ever*, but never mind that: those made me want to.

Well now, as soon as I saw "Glance" I fell in love with her. Not literally, but oh, so seductive! :)
Then saw "Couplet" - is that a hint of nipple on the one behind? :P - Both of them gorgeous; definitely.
Oh and "Bound" (to me) appears to be looking back at someone who's gawping at her situation with a "What? Whaaaat? There's nothing wrong here, so 'go crawl back to that that school for the mentally handicapped from whence you came, foul knave'*." kind of expression. Which by my calculations gives her an extremely well-defined character - brilliant! I (still not having drawn anything in my life) would guess that apart from the eyes, and that damn proportionality thingy... would say that character is something most people would find very *very* hard to get into a figure - couple of 'arty' friends seem to not produce many who have definite character). Speaking of which, that behind girl in Couplet looks very... well... street-wise?

*Quoted from http://www.nhforums.com/forums/showthread.php?goto=lastpost&t=576 which appears to no longer exist :( Shame really: I'm sure I've heard someone say that in a film sometime, and would love to know what it was...

Nipple - Yes. Around half of my drawings are naked; and the others have simple clothing which are mainly hemlines drawn onto their bodies; possibly with a bit of emphasis at the edges (like the jeans). Nothing seedy (uhh, not very seedy anyway; and if I was to do anything seedy, I sure as hell wouldn't post it here...). I used to do life drawing, so I'm fairly open with the idea of nudity.

Unfortunately, most of my successes with expression are fairly accidental; much more practice needed.

I draw your attention to Rion Vernon, who is my own personal Jesus Christ; I'm trying to emulate the same kinds of exaggerated dynamics. Certainly the "western" style seems to be working out a lot better for me than the "anime" style.

But none of my pictures are direct copies, either from Rion or any other source. Occaisionally I take the idea for a pose from somewhere, but I usually work on completely seperately.

I meant to say that some of the rules I was trying to figure out for manga/anime style drawing have been pretty useful in developing this; plus life drawing experience, plus understanding-of-basic-human-anatomy experience.

But yeah, I'll figure it out eventually. Probably.
